Me
These photos are self portraits in which I am wearing my grandmother’s clothing and walking around the village she grew up in in the 1950s. Creating these photos was like traveling by time machine. I tried to get a sense of what it was really like to live in that specific time and that specific place. However, I still am who I am, someone from an big city, an unorthodox and rebellious teenager who dismisses tradition. By taking these photos, I can touch that life of tradition without feeling trapped by it, and try to understand it. I emphasized bold, luminous colors in my photographs to mimic traditional oil painting. My hope is that through these photos I showed the contrast between old and new, tradition and rebellion. But at the same time, I want to show viewers that we are all products of the many lives that happened before us.
