This is a series of works taken in a psychiatric hospital. It is about the influence of family and society on psychology. The hospital cares for people with many psychological conditions, such as schizophrenia, depression, dissociative disorders and anxiety disorders. However, I often think that there is nothing wrong with them. They are just different from the majority.

My created an installation of physical photos of a place, which I then put back into the environment and photographed again. These photos show the distance between the actual self and the represented self. They are also a metaphor for the idea that every person has a past that stays with them forever, like a shadow. We as a society can't simply blame a person for where they are in life. We need to explore the reasons why.

While every other photo in this series deals with the past and the internal world, this piece, in a contrasting warm light, is about the future: how society can support the mentally disabled, and leave their past of discrimination behind. I used a low shutter speed to document a man standing up from his seated position on the stairs, exiting the hospital.
